Selladale Synergies

Selladale Synergies is a vehicle scrap recycling facility operator startup established in 2022. We are registered with the DIPP, Government of India. We are working towards solving vehicle scrap and component recycling problems in India. We are focused on developing infrastructure technologies to modernise and streamline vehicle scrap and recycling projects that benefit the citizens and protect the environment.

Understanding the Vehicle Scrappage Policy

Old and end-of-life vehicles (ELV) are not fit to run on the roads as they significantly contribute to pollution. The government of India has created a new policy to scrap unfit vehicles and phase out dangerous cars. This reduces the overall country's footprint and reduces the amount of pollution. Apart from a positive environmental impact, the vehicle scrappage policy also allows for reusing old components, thus helping the government with its recycling efforts.

The "Green India" initiative was created in 2021 to scrap old vehicles and make room for cleaner vehicles. Commercial and passenger cars older than 15 and 20 years old should be scrapped if they fail the fitness and emissions tests by the authorities. The scrappage policy benefits vehicle owners, too, as unsuitable automobiles are appropriately valued and compensated for. It also creates employment opportunities in the scrapping facilities.

The government offers 25% and 15% road tax credits for personal and commercial scrapped vehicles. Scrapped vehicle owners can get compensated with 4% to 6% of the ex-showroom cost of the new car they are willing to buy. With a certificate of deposit, vehicle owners can waive registration costs for the new car.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highway announced in April 2022 that registration renewal charges for vehicles older than 15 years would be 8 times more than the current rate. For personal cars, the fine is Rs. 300 per month for delaying renewal. For commercial vehicles, the penalty for postponing registration renewal is Rs. 50 per day.

By April 2023, mandatory fitness testing of commercial cars will begin, and the same will be expanded to personal vehicles in 2024. All government vehicles (state and central) older than 15 years old will be scrapped in 2022.

Vintage vehicles are significantly older, and the vehicle scrappage policy doesn't apply to them. They have a high maintenance cost and are used less often on the road because vintage vehicles often sit in collectors' garages.

Why Choose Selladale Synergies?

Selladale Synergies was created to meet the rising demand for scrapping facilities that can use technology for the greater good. Unauthorised scrapping centres don't pay the vehicle owners properly and don't follow proper documentation for unregistering the vehicles. Scrapped cars are often used in malicious activities and are left to pollute the environment even more.

According to Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister, India can become a vehicle scrapping hub for South Asia with the proper setup of scrapping facilities. The government is working on creating a scrapping facility within 150 km of each city. Selladale Synergies is now working towards creating technology-powered scrapping centres that help the government implement its scrappage policy effectively while ensuring that the car owners also benefit from it.
